Gaylon E. "Ray" McInelly

Ray McInelly Photo from Marston Milestones 1958

Ray McInelly passed away Mar. 5, 2002 from complications related to the prescribed use of Fen-Fen. His widow, Deanna Jean “Jeannie” Stevens said July 30, 2010 would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They met at CHS and married at the end of Ray's senior year and her junior year. Together, they built a family dynasty. They had three children, ten grandchildren (5 boys and 5 girls) and nine great grandchildren (7 boys and 2 girls).

After they married, they lived in Santee until 1978, then Phoenix for 5 years. A cement finisher by trade, he traveled all over the country but in 1991 moved to Ephraim, UT, his hometown. After surviving a heart attack in 1991 he was unable to work and kept busy doing wood working at home where he made objects for Jeannie to use for her tole painting craft.

Jeannie says Ray transferred in to CHS from Hoover High school. “He used to live down the street from me and would walk to school behind me and tease me. He was sort of a rebellious kid and left school six weeks before graduation! He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.”

I Remember:

Between the 8th and 9th grades at Marston I played on a Pony League Baseball team with Ray McInelly. The name of the team was the GEKS, and we sure were. Ray was a center fielder and a catcher and he was very good. Some other members of our team were Tom Woods, Ron Reich, George Lyons, and Mike Smith. We won the league championship and played in the County Team playoffs (not the All-Stars) and we won the tournament.
